About the Chef
the time I was able to stand I was with my Grandma helping
out in the kitchen. I grew up in the restaurant business,
but more importantly I grew up in a traditional Italian
family. While we’re eating one meal, we’re talking about
what we’re going to eat at the next – and that’s how I
always remember it.
At The Mt Airy Tavern we
take simple comfort foods and add an upscale or unique
twist to them. There’s a reason words like "fresh" and
"housemade" appear all through our menu – we’ve always
taken the time to get the food right, and I think our
reputation bears that out.
We offer specials every
weekend (see our
Facebook Page for an extensive album of photos) and we
take advantage of our location right in the middle of the
agricultural communities of Frederick, Carroll and Howard
counties to source a wide variety of in-season
We have an excellent team
of chefs at the Tavern and at the weekends we really allow
them to shine and show off their creativity. Some of the
most popular items on our regular menu have come from
weekend specials developed collaboratively. As the
executive chef and as the owner of the restaurant, I take
a real pride in that.
We began a complete
renovation and refurbishment of the old Olive Leaf Cafe
beginning in May 2009, and had The Mt Airy Tavern open
within four months.
The renovation included a
complete overhaul of the kitchen and the installation of a
state-of-the-art computerized ordering system.
